Veyron's Speed Record was Beat!

This past Thusday 13th the brand new SSC Aero (Super Shelby Cars) beat Bugatti Veyron's speed record. Veyron's previous record was 253mph but the SSC reached 255.82mph in West Richland, WA. This car has a Twin Turbo 6.2L V8 with an amazing 1183hp!!! This beast can cost you $239,000 for the base model and $650,500 for the Ultimate Aero, aka fastest production car in the world.

Got a question for you. Why would someone buy it? I know it would be awesome to have, who wouldn't want it for show purposes, but I am assuming the gas mileage that comes with that car is worse than a Hummer. Leave it to Americans though to give you a reason for purchasing a car like that with, "I just want to go fast." On a more positive note, its nice that we have the technology to engineer a car that can go that fast without ripping the front quarter panels off and only a V8. The SRT-10 is a ten cylinder car and is only quoted to just break 200?

well i got another question for you. Do you think that the person who buys this car is goin to care about the gas mileage??

I dont really understand your other question...but the way i see it is why this car can go faster by only being a V8....well its got 2 huge turbos...

I think the unfortunate thing about this car is that clearly, it was engineered for speed. This means that even though it's got a huge, loud engine and goes really fast, it certainly can't have the acceleration and maneuverability of most supercars. This is partly because aerodynamics are probably tuned for less downforce, and partly because the fat arse of the car with the engine in it must have an incredible amount of inertia.

So, screw SSC, buy a Lotus. In fact, buy ten Lotuses.

For @650,500 I'll take Cucku's suggestion on a Lotus or even a loaded Ferrari or Lamborghini.

But wow... a twin turbo v8 beating the Veyron's quartet of turbos and a W16 (two V8s)... they gotta be fairly upset that their record is beaten.

I would like to preface this comment with the fact that this isn't crazy009, this is his friend. First of all, Anon, who gives a $#*T about gas mileage? You praise the Bugatti, but it burns 1.3 gallons a minute at high speeds! This car is special because it was built by a company on a realtively low-budget. Bugatti's sell on average for multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars. therefore, they have the monetary backing to support such an endeavor. SSC is a privately owned company and developed this car on a shoe-string budget compared to Bugatti. And of course this car is not going to be the best handling car on the road. Neither is the Bugatti! This vehicle was purpose built for speed.
